Once a Bearcat, Always a Bearcat

  The first football game of the season between Kumaneko and Supekishi happened yesterday. I decided long ago that whenever this happened, I would cheer for Kumaneko because their band was my first "band family" so I really wasn't torn about which side to be on. (Marching Band members are automatically members of the Pep Band). I was slightly anxious though since so many people from Supekishi would be attending the game (and it's an away game for them too.) However, it does one no good to worry about what others think of you so I donned Kumaneko's spirited bright orange pep band shirt and went to go sit in the stands with my "family" to enthusiatic approval from my bandmates. Once in the stands, I was greeted with a hug from my childhood friend/current crush who found my position very ironic but was nonetheless glad to have me here. I think he was ominously thinking something along the lines of "You'll never escape from this school~" ^^;;;

  I don't care for football at all. That being said, the game was really fun. It was the first time this year that I got to spend so much time with all of my band friends, and playing at a football game too so it was very nostalgic. My fears were not ungrounded though. Several times throughout the game, Supekishi students would come over to the Kumaneko side to meet their friends and as they were saying hello to their band friends, they'd spot me sitting amongst them. xD Then there was the initial reaction of confusion and then outrage, levels varying depending on the person. I found it all very hilarious and entertaining actually. Especially this one guy from my history class. Three separate times throughout the game, he'd come over to the Kumaneko stands and start yelling at me for "being on the wrong side" and calling me a "traitor" and such. I found it all very amusing, to tell the truth. In the end, he came to the conclusion that I was playing for the pep band so that I could get into the game for free. The truth is, I could care less about school politics and pride, all I want to do is play my clarinet. :x

eh? *notice something*

My favorite octopus is retiring...;w;

Though the FIFA World Cup is long over and people have stopped talking about it by now........I still need to give my two cents about it!! :P
I'm not a huge soccer fan, but I can watch soccer games (unlike baseball games....I can't tolerate those at all) and so I tried to watch the few knockout matches that I could. (The other games were held during work). I found it very interesting and fun...though I think all the hype about Paul helped a bit. I completely became his fan after just one correct prediction (and after reading his Wikipedia page). xD I don't know why exactly....he just fascinates me. *_* I was very sad to hear that he won't be back for the next World Cup, but thinking about it realistically, I guess octopuses don't live that long. :( I hope he has a happy life from now on.

As for why this really late post about it all? I was lazy? XD Yes, probably, but also I've been very tired these days. I don't know if the work is getting harder (doesn't feel like it) but I would just come home, turn on the fan, and lie around. I guess it must be the heat then. :/

So! Another thing I've been putting off...my impressions for the Summer anime season! Without further ado, let's begin!

Kuroshitsuji II
This was the show I was most looking forward to since I'm a big fan of the series (and Ciel especially♥). I wasn't really sure what to make of it during the months leading up to the first episode since it was to be completely anime original but since Toboso Yana was involved in it (even if only doing the character design) I decided to give it a shot.
The first (half of the first) episode didn't really sit right with me. I thought, maybe I'll have to drop this series after all? Then the mysterious cloaked man appeared and the moment he started speaking I knew all hope was not lost! xD (I surprised myself, I didn't think I knew the character's voices that well. o.O)
The second episode was alright. At least they showed what a stark contrast Ciel and Alois are, personality wise. I wonder if Maaya is still voicing Ciel? She should be...but sometimes his voice sounds off....or maybe I don't remember it as well? o.O

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi
The fact that the opening is by May'n surprised me! I kinda forgot about her after Macross Frontier which is quite shameful since I love her voice. This song is no exception! As for the series, I'm enjoying it very much! I don't see much of a plot, but there's a full cast of quirky characters so that makes up for it in the mean time. Every episode is fun to watch! ^^

Amagami SS
....Someone remind me again why I'm watching this? It's not bad or anything...I've watched the first 3 eps. But it's not really interesting either. :/ I can't complain, since it's mostly fanservice for guys, but I was kinda hoping for a story in there...somewhere? Or maybe it's because I don't like the current heroine much. The anime is divided into arcs for different girls so....I'm waiting for one in particular. I like her because we have the same hairstyle. xD (First anime character I've seen and she keeps her hair more controlled LOL) See?

My hair is seriously that messy and curly.

Also, someone should slap me and tell me I'm watching too many anime series at once! Aside from the above three, I'm still keeping up to date with Kaichou wa Maid Sama!, watching Clannad ~After Story~, and just recently started watching Ristorante Paradiso since youtube was broken on my phone and I only had the Crunchyroll app to use for anime. Sooner or later, one will have to be put on hold...I don't know which one. =.=

Random: I finished playing episode 1 of Umineko...I feel so accomplished!! It feels like it took me forever~ @.@ (24 days to be exact) I think the fun starts in the next episode though~ :3

Hmm...was there something else that I wished to say? I don't remember. So I leave you with a meme I found at strawberrykaoru . If you wish, please fill it out~.
I look forward to reading your answers~♥

My day seems to revolve around birds...

I got a haircut today and while my hair may have looked like a bird's nest before (mother's words) it looks like plumes of feathers instead. When I saw it for the first time (that is, when I put my glasses back on after it was finished and actually SAW) the first thing that ran through my mind is "LOOK I'M A BIRD." My mom, strange woman she is, loves it. Well, now my nickname (my japan!phile friends call me Pii-chan) fits me more. :/ Thankfully, since it's summer break I don't see people I know often. (' _ ')b

On another slightly bird related note, I started playing Umineko no Naku Koro ni. \o/ I finished the anime recently, loved it, was impatient for a second season, and then decided to just go play the visual sound novel. (While visuals are certainly lacking, the BGM is great.♥) The translations are really top-notch too, so I'll certainly see this to the end. It'll definitely keep me busy for a long while.

Work is going fine, I'm still sticking to my half-day schedule. xD (I think I enjoy being home alone a little too much.) However, my summer doesn't revolve around JUST games, anime, and work -- I did something healthy and hung out with non-otaku friends last week! Yay~ We went to the movies and saw Letters to Juliet, a chick flick. I normally don't watch these types of movies but this one was really sweet and I enjoyed the evening very much.

Oh yeah, another important aspect of my summer which I forgot (purposefully, probably)....my summer homework. =.= I went to Barnes & Noble yesterday to buy my summer reading book so now I don't have a valid excuse to not start. We have to read the Iliad by Homer and......oh gosh, even the title makes it sound so depressing. It's all written in verse so I'm not even sure if I can understand it all....and then there are the 19 essay questions that need to be answered...maybe it's better that this gets pushed to the back of my mind for now...

Hoping you're having an enjoyable summer~♥

First (Official) Day of Summer Break!

Remember what I said about not having any rl friends know about this journal? Whoops. So, one knows (I've sworn her to absolute secrecy about the site's link X3) and she pleasantly surprised me this morning with a friend request. I told her about my lj in an attempt to lure her in...it's not working so well (she prefers tumblr), this must be the 3rd attempt...well allow me to formally welcome mallorythecloud !

Today was my first day at my first ever summer job!! *beams proudly* Well, pretty much my first job ever. I currently work as my clarinet teacher's assistant at his academic music camp. The 8 kids that go there range from ages of 6 to 9. They're all sweet and adorable, it wasn't much trouble at all! All I had to do was basically play with them in the morning, and help out during crafts time and such. In the midst of all this time, the kids are taken two at a time by another teacher who gives them individual piano lessons. So far, I'm only working half day so I don't know what they do in the afternoons, but since I'll be doing this all summer, I may switch and work during the afternoon half. Commute is fairly easy. I get dropped off in the morning at 8:30 and then around 12:30 I leave and walk home. It's a 1.3 mile walk which I covered in about 20 minutes, so I get my daily exercise too, yaay~! There are actually tons of benefits for me, since I'm working as a "volunteer" I can rack up those volunteer hours early. :3 Plus my teacher is offering a free lesson per every week I work, that's $33 I save per lesson!! Whoohoo!

The later half of my day will be reserved for kicking back, getting together with friends, anime, and extra studying for next year as per my father. I'm feeling pretty good about this summer!!

Random Stuff

There's a new Maaya Sakamoto x Yoko Kanno collaboration out. This song was used as a theme for...something. ^^;; It's another soothing song...I think it will grow on me since I'm not feeling very attached yet. Have a listen.

Also, I stole this from mila_gogo . I think it describes me pretty well. ^^

What is says about you: You are a contemplative person. You appreciate friends who get along with one another. People depend on you to make them feel secure. You share hobbies with friends and like trying to fit into their routines.

Also, if you don't mind (I need to keep track somehow!) I'm going to keep a count of my volunteer hours in my summer posts. :3 (You can find the number next to my mood. ^^)

The magic words are "squeamish ossifrage"

^ you may say that instead if you wish. :)
This here's a meme I long owe strawberrykaoru the answers to her questions. My only excuse was that number two was really hard!! >.<

- Leave a comment saying "Beam me up Scotty!"
- I'll respond by asking you five questions to satisfy my curiosity.
- Update your journal with the answers to your questions.
- Include this explanation and offer to ask other people questions.

Here were mine:

1. When did you start playing the clarinet?
I've been playing for 4 years. ._.; Not even really, but I like to round up because it looks better on applications to Youth Orchestras.:D So despite my flounting and whatnot, I'm really just a novice. A novice that sees a concerto in her near future (think 2 years?) and it scares her.

2. If given the chance to go back in time, what would be the one thing you would change? And if that happens, what would be the repercussions of the change?
Wow. This question is really...essay like. xD One could seriously write a whole essay to answer this question. I'm uncertain if you meant in my life or in general history....I'm going to pick my life because that's a lot less material to cover. xD
But still, I don't think any part of my life has been horrible enough for me to want to change...if I had to pick one instance then I pick the time when my younger brother was learning how to speak. I spoke to him all the time in English against my parents' wishes of wanting me to speak Assamese, our native language. I wasn't particularly trying to rebel, English came so naturally to me since I hadn't spoken Assamese in ages (though I consider myself quite fluent.) As a result, my brother can now speak English very well but can not understand Assamese at all. It's something I consider my fault. I would love to go back in time and speak my native language for what it's worth so that my brother can have this part of our heritage too. I'm so sorry, little brother. ._.;;

3. Favourite junk food?
This one is another tough one. >w< I really love sweets, especially chocolate! If I have to pick something specific then...I guess ice cream! There are other more delicious junk foods that I'm blanking out on but ice cream is always readily available since I make sure to keep it stocked up. :P Favorite flavor is coffee <3 but I like trying other flavors as well. My least favorite, probably vanilla because it's so plain but I love vanilla too! <--Did that make any sense? XD

4. Let's take a peek at your music library - what genres do you listen to?

My music library? It's completely JPOP. ^^;;; Like, JPOP makes up 75/76ths of my music library. Yeah, it's that bad. XD The next biggest category is a load of clarinet solos that I had to study. XP And then at the end, there are a handful of (10?) english songs that I found to be quite pleasant. There are more songs like this out in the world yes, but I only download a song if I REALLY REALLY like it so that's why the number is so few. ^^;

5. Are there any courses that you really want to take, but aren't offered at school?
Oh my yes. JAPANESE definitely!! But you already knew that.;) Um...I guess a lot of other different languages such as Italian, German, Korean and so on and so forth. I kinda wish my school had a bigger Home Ecs department instead of just cooking...I'd like to learn how to be handy with a needle and thread. XD In sports, I'd love to learn Archery....is that even a typical course? XD A computer programming class would be great too...I think my list could go on and on because I simply love to learn new things!

"Ultimate LiveJournal Obsession Test"?

Haha, I took this just to see what the options were and such. I'm satisfied with my results considering this journal is not even a year old. I wonder what it'll be like at the end of 2 years? 3 years? xD

Idiots, Video Games, and a Blue Stuffed Dog

The first five people to comment in this post get to request that I draw a doodle of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.

Ahahahaha, that bit about "ability level" seems to be directed right at me. Anyways, I'd be happy to draw you something and I promise I'll put in a lot more effort than that "doodle" I have adorning my welcome post. ^^;

Now on to my original post!
- So weeks ago I saw the preview for the Winter Anime Series and brushed them aside with the belief that there wasn't anything worth watching....BOY WAS I WRONG! Baka to Test To Shoukanjuu (Idiots, Tests, and Summoned Beings) is a real gem among all the (what I once thought) uninteresting animes of this season. It's a show based off of a light novel (though I hear they're pretty different) about a special academy where test scores equal power and students duke it out in Exam Summoning Battles for rights to better facilities. Class A learns in luxury while Class F can't even afford a piece of chalk for their board! The story follows Class F on their quest to secure Classroom A! The show itself is absolutely hilarious with well timed jokes and gags. For all the episodes out right now, I can't stop laughing!! I recommend this to everyone because it's one of those series that everyone can enjoy!

- Lately, I had a sudden craving to play Professor Layton. All of a sudden, right out of the blue, I wanted to play Professor Layton! I've only played 3 minutes of it before (last summer) and none of my friends owned a copy. So I did what the sensible cheapskate does. I scoured the internet for a ROM. Now, for some games I've found roms for them fairly quickly. But Layton was a real challenge. (how ironic) In the end I went through about 20 files (not kidding) before I finally found a working one of Diabolical Box.  And of course I'm tremendously pleased. I've been playing it as much as I can during my spare time (which I don't have enough of.) The struggle to get the game has taught me to never give up. It's also taught me that when I want to play Professor Layton and The Curious Village, I should use my birthday money to buy it and hope my brother lends me his DSi. :3
(I do own a GBA SP. I just download NDS games.)

In just a few hours my school's winter concert will begin! So excited~~!
