Let's see if I can condense everything...
-We've been to two events. The first was a band review and the second was a parade. Both very different.
Band Review: Can something be short and time consuming at the same time? That's a band review for ya. These events take the whole entire day although you only perform for 5ish minutes. Basically the band parades down a street as some judges make comments into their handheld audio recorders. Then you get 4 hours of downtime until you're called for an awards ceremony and you hope you actually win something. We were pretty bad, not going to lie, but we still placed...
Parade: So much different...and yet I think it was harder? Here we perform for about an hour...meaning we play the march about 7 times. And then there are fancy pinwheel maneuvers to get around street corners and you need to avoid horse droppings and there are actually judges at parades (?!) but it was SO MUCH FUN! All those people cheering for you and applauding if we so much as just plain march by...xD Unfortunately we don't do too many parades in our marching season...I think the next one is all the way in March...:/
Tomorrow! We're off to a band review in Santa Cruz....meaning lots of free time. The best part is that we can spend that time at the Beach Boardwalk!! Hooray! Rides, food, and ocean!!! I'm really excited! >w<
By the way...we look like this. :P
I'm a straight A student so far (well one A- but it should count) hehe. It's not really strenuous, pretty boring actually.
Language Arts is still my favorite class just because the teacher is so funny and tells interesting stories. We're reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. Just started actually. The book was selected as the one book the whole community would read together during October so the author came to our school last Thursday to discuss the book. He was kinda cool and he made the book sound a lot more interesting than it seems. So far I've figured out that the story revolves around two individuals, Joe Kavalier and Sammy Clay, as they try to make a living as comic book artists in 1940's Brooklyn, NY. I can't wait to get more into it!
-I had my midterm this week!! It was in two parts, a practical and a written. For the practical part, we sang a song! Specifically, we sang Halloween Town e Yokoso from the Japanese dub of Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas." I'd rather have done a Jpop song, but we (my group of 3 others) took so long to choose a song that I was fine with anything at that point. It was still a fun song! And in the process, I learned that another girl in my group is a Maaya fan too! ♥ Anyways, I feel very confident about my midterm! :3
- I'm in the process of applying for my second semester of classes.
- Went to the library and stocked up on a load of animu dvds. Okay not really, just Whisper of the Heart, Howl's Moving Castle, and Princess Tutu Vol.1. (And Nancy Drew...but wrong category)
Whisper of the Heart just made it on my favorite movies list. (which is quite short) Amazing movie. And the kid's a violin maker? ♥
- Out of the Fall Season I'm keeping up with Bakuman, Yumeiro SP, and STAR DRIVER. I'm really enjoying what they're doing with Bakuman right now. The opening has nice vivid colors, it's great!
Okay, that's enough from me! 'Till next time. :D
